Camp Weona Home

Camping Life

Weona is a "Group Work" Camp
Groups of 8-12 campers of similar gender and age attend daily activities together as a cabin with their counselors. The intention is to foster a "family" like atmosphere.

Cabin Groups and Unitsbunks
At Weona, small groups of eight to twelve campers with two counselors live together and attend daily activities as a cabin group. Cabin groups are made up of boys or girls entering similar grades. Each group belongs to an age specific unit sharing common activities and special programs. Each child will have the opportunity to choose a bunk mate of similar age. We make every attempt to honor these requests but it may not always be possible.

Health
Our program has been designed with the safety of campers in mind. A full time camp health officer lives on site and a physician is on call 24 hours a day. Camp Weona is certified by the New York State Health Department and is accredited by the American Camping Association.

Staff

In addition, Weona has highly qualified and specialized staff for each activity area to ensure the best learning experience for all campers. All staff are trained intensively before camp starts and participate in workshops throughout the summer. Most importantly Weona's staff understands and values young people and are committed to helping campers develop in positive ways.

What Campers will be Doing?

Our program is designed to give everyone the opportunity to experience all age appropriate camp activities. Special care is taken to ensure each camper has challenging opportunities along with basic instruction in skills. Each day Cayuga campers receive YMCA progressive swim lessons and during their stay, participate in horseback riding, adventure programming, outdoor living skills, athletics and the creative arts.

Through these activities, campers develop self-confidence, teamwork, an appreciation of the outdoors, creativity and pride in themselves and their newly-learned skills. But most importantly, they will end their stay at Camp Weona with fond memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.
