ABOUT WEONA:
Camp Weona is owned and operated by YMCA Buffalo Niagara. Founded in 1897, it has a long and rich history. It's located outside of Warsaw about an hour from Buffalo or Rochester, nestled in 1,000 acres of hardwood and pine forests. Weona has 35 miles of picturesque hiking trails, babbling brooks, and a charming century old barn. It is the ideal setting for hands-on fun, adventure, and learning.
Campers enjoy canoeing and fishing in our lakes, exploring the Pink Forest, hiking through Maple Run, and up to the Hollow Tree. They develop self-confidence and commitment as they are thrilled by our world-class adventure ropes course and our exciting horseback riding program. Teamwork and sports skills develop as they play on the high meadow athletic fields and swim in the heated pool. An appreciation of the outdoors is learned through nature activities. Pride and creativity are expressed through drama, song, sailing/kayaking, mountain biking and craft. But most importantly, they will end their stay at Camp Weona with fond memories and friendships that will last a lifetime. The camp employs about 50 staff serving 170 children per session.
PROGRAM:
Weona is a co-ed group work camp where 8 - 12 campers of the same age and two counselors live together and attend all regular daily activities as a group. All program staff will be given a cabin group to live with and support. This family-style living emphasizes cooperation, self-esteem, success, and personal growth in a safe and nurturing environment. Campers entering Grades 1-10 attend Weona in one week and two week sessions and during this time they participate in all Camp Weona activities. YMCA Camp Weona is an American Camping Association accredited camp.
Weona functions as an Outdoor Education Center both before and after summer camp. School, church, family and corporate groups utilize Weona's facilities and program for trips of all kinds. In a year Camp Weona will see over 4,000 people in its Outdoor Education Program.
